It is hard to believe we are already one week into May…where does the time go?! After our never-ending winter, I vowed to make plans for a few Spring weekend getaways, and to enjoy the local area on the other weekends. So far, Mother Nature has been cooperating and we have had some memorable weekends this Spring! I will let my pictures tell the story…
Two weekends ago, we popped down to DC to visit our daughter,
Caroline…we go every couple of months and always manage to hit up our
favorite places. We hadn’t been to the National Gallery of Art in a
while, so we spent one afternoon there – it is such a national treasure and should be on everyone’s “must see” list when they visit Washington. It was a beautiful day so we spent some time in Sculpture Garden – another must on a beautiful day. Washington is one of my favorite cities – I am so happy
Caroline lives there so we can visit on a regular basis!

The blue skies were SO gorgeous! |
A touch of Paris in the Sculpture Garden…appropriate in the American city that most reminds ME of Paris. |
This “silver” tree looked SO real! |
On our way home, we detoured to visit Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania…what a treat! I had never been there before, and although it was quite chilly the day we visited, we really enjoyed seeing all of the tulips in bloom and the extensive greenhouse displays. Longwood is famous for their fabulous fountains which are under extensive renovations until 2017 – they should be amazing when the are finished, but until then, it is still beautiful to walk through the gardens and conservatories.
In the spirit of “walking through gardens is always a good idea”, last weekend we headed to one of the true treasures of New York City, the New York Botanical Garden. We have been members there for years and enjoy going every few weeks for a stroll enjoying whatever is in bloom. I think we pretty much hit the peak on Sunday…
In addition, to hitting the Spring flowers at their peak, we also stumbled upon the newly opened restaurant at NYBG – Hudson Garden Grill. The food was delicious and the space is gorgeous…the oak paneling on the walls came from trees felled in the garden during Hurricane Sandy. It was the perfect ending to a day in the gardens…
I am headed out of town yet again…this time to San Diego to celebrate my son’s college graduation! I am not letting any moss grow under my feet this Spring!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there, including my own, who is my most ardent reader!!
xoxo

Isn't this the most glorious time of year? And I'm so happy that even as I age, springs keep getting prettier, more fragrant and more wondrous because my life is slowly fading…..but the wonder? Never. It never fades.

Congratulations on your sons graduation! I am sure that you are so proud. I hope the trip was fabulous. I missed this post because I was traveling as well to Kansas City to see my mother in law.
I love Washington, D. C and everything it has to offer. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world and has so much to offer. When I worked in D.C I spent a lot of time at all of the places you visited.
Have a great week Sandy!!
