When I close my eyes and think of summer, there is one place that will also come into my mind first…the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There is a casual, laid back vibe on the Outer Banks that makes it the perfect place to escape in the summer.

My
favorite place in the Outer Banks is Corolla, a small village at the northern end of
the chain of barrier islands that makes up what is affectionately known as “OBX”. Corolla has gorgeous wide, dune swept beaches, but is
narrow enough in places that you can watch the sun rise over the ocean
and set over the sound from the same house.

I have spent many a day from sun up to sun down lounging on these beaches…

This photo reminds me of my boys when they were little…they both learned to surf in Corolla.

Keep your eyes open to look for the wild horses that roam the beaches…
Most people rent vacation homes like these…
…but the Sanderling Resort is also an excellent choice for shorter stays.

So, kick off your shoes, grab your beach chair and surfboard and soak up the sun in OBX this year! I can’t imagine any place I would rather be!

Hi Sandy! We are having a fantastic summer, but a lot of rain. Hoping today's morning clouds will burn off so I can go out and take some photos! Happy day, Anita

Lovely, Sandy! What a wonderful place to explore as a young person – and as a grownup, too! One of my dear friends is there right now with her kids – she grew up in North Carolina and summered in the Outer Banks and returns every year to spend time with family. Your post is making me want to join her next year! XOXO

What a nice blog post about the OBX! It is such a wonderful place to escape to and really unwind. The wild horses are another thing that make it so majestic. We rent homes every year in the summer and sometimes in the fall as well. The fall is really relaxing if you enjoy hot tubs and fireplaces ๐ I've never been to the sanderling but for our week stays we go with Southern Shores Realty. They have been there the longest and always a great time! Thanks for posting!

This area really appeals to me. The beach in the first photo looks so peaceful and I can never resist a walk in the dunes as it reminds me of childhood holidays and day trips. The villas look wonderful – somewhere to add to my list!

It's always been a dream of mine to go there. There's a photo contest running on Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/CarolinaDesignsRealty/app_451684954848385?ref=page_internal ) to win a week long stay in Kill Devil Hills. The theme is "I need a vacation" , and I really do lol! Fingers crossed I'll get to see the Outer Banks soon!
