There is nothing like a vacation in the islands to re-charge your batteries…except maybe a longer vacation in the islands. We just returned from six days on St. Lucia and I could have easily stayed a lot longer!! Especially since we returned to eight inches of fresh snow, with more in the forecast. The only thing I want frozen in my life right now is another banana daiquiri!
Our home on St. Lucia was the beautiful Capella Marigot Bay.

The Capella Marigot Bay has 57 suites and 67 guest rooms, which are built into the hillside overlooking the marina and the bay. Our suite had this view…
Not bad at all!
It felt like we had our own little apartment as we had a living room and a full kitchen. My photos of the suite did not turn out, but here is an example of what it looked like:

Each guest at the Capella Marigot Bay has a dedicated personal assistant to arrange anything they may need – from airport logistics, private dining experiences, rainforest
hikes, snorkeling, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, and day cruises. Monty, our personal assistant, called us the day before we left to introduce himself and ask if we would like to book anything in advance – it was a really nice touch. Another feature I love is that they stock the refrigerator with complimentary soft drinks, and bring an afternoon treat to your room each day. They also walked around the pool throughout they day offering little snacks and drink samples. In a world where it seems businesses nickel and dime you at every turn, it is such a pleasure to be offered a few little things as a courtesy. It doesn’t take much but it means a lot.

Capella Marigot Bay has three restaurants and we sampled them all. The food was delicious (not always a guarantee in the Caribbean) and the service was excellent in every one of them.
While there isn’t a beach on the hotel property, you can take a short ferry ride to a small nearby beach and waterfront restaurant. The real star of the Capella Marigot Bay, however, is the harbor filled with sailboats and yachts of all sizes. It is the perfect place to relax by the water and soak up some Caribbean sunshine. Water sports such as sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving and deep sea fishing are all easy to do from Marigot Bay.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from around the property…
This sailboat is the prettiest I have ever seen – all 80 feet of it. |

Novelist James Michener called Marigot Bay “the most beautiful bay in the Caribbean” – after our
stay there, I agree wholeheartedly. When approaching the bay by boat,
you don’t even know it is there – it is truly a hidden gem. You know
you have truly chilled out, when you can spend hours just sitting with a
good book, sipping a rum drink and watching as beautiful boats come in
and out of the harbor.

A few things to keep in mind if you are thinking of visiting St. Lucia…
Getting around the island is not particularly easy. The island is very hilly and towns and resorts are situated along the coast. Most resorts are at least an hour drive from the airport on very windy and hilly roads.
And, for the most part, St. Lucia is not a place to go simply for the beach – most resorts carve out a small patch of sand for their guests, but definitely do not expect wide swaths of white sand beaches which some people expect when they think of the Caribbean. Most visitors enjoy their resort’s facilities and add in a day trip or two, whether by boat or by car.
We
opted to mostly just relax…although we did take a boat one day to see
the famous Pitons and to check out another resort I have heard so much
about that lies between the two peaks – the Viceroy Sugar Beach, which I will share more about later this week.
Stay Tuned…

Sandy, this looks like a perfect place to sit back, relax and just do nothing but read, and sample frosty drinks. I hope that you recharged and have enough energy for the storm that is supposed to head to the East coast over the weekend.
I love all of your beautiful photos, especially the boats and the flowers.

Oh Sandy, I have enjoyed your dreamy tropical inspiration on instagram all week. You captured the essence of St. Lucia beautifully. I do think you stayed in one of the most beautiful hidden gems of a bay. It is not an easy island to get around. We hired a driver and his Mercedes suv broke down so we were rather stranded for a couple of hours. At least there was a road side 'punch bar' right next to where we ended up. Such a beautiful post. Thrilled that you had such a beautiful, relaxing getaway my dear.
xx, Heather

Beautiful! I love places that provide unexpected treats rather than signs everywhere telling you how much you will be charged if you even think about picking up that bag of nuts in the "courtesy bar".

This looks wonderful Sandy, I love having a little kitchen so you don't have to go out for every meal.
