While we were on St. Lucia last week, we ventured out by boat to visit another luxury resort on the island. We took a boat for about 45 minutes along the jagged cliffs of the coastline until we came upon this sight…
The famous Pitons of St. Lucia…a site so iconic to the island of St. Lucia that their local beer is called “Piton”…
As we ventured a bit further towards these peaks, we saw this nestled between them…
As we approached the resort by boat, we saw the prettiest white sand beach, and hence the name of the resort – Sugar Beach. It is now the Viceroy Sugar Beach, but once upon a time the resort was named for the bay between the Pitons – Jalousie Bay – jalousie means “jealousy” in French. One look and the source of both names become clear…
When our boat docked, we were greeted by staff offering us cool towels and bottles of water, a much appreciated touch after being out on the water.
One of the perks of being in the travel business is getting to take tours of hotels and resorts. At Sugar Beach, we were met upon our arrival by Lisa, who gave us a wonderful tour of the property.
The resort is quite large – over 100 acres – so they use these charming tuk-tuks to transport guests around the property…
After a short ride in the tuk-tuk, we arrived at the base of, without a doubt, the coolest spa EVER…
The Treehouse Spa…where the treatment rooms are in individual tree houses. It is even more incredible in person…
Leaving the spa, you wind your way down the stairs to the main building of the property – the original manor home of a colonial era sugar plantation…this is where many of the resort’s common areas are located – several restaurants and bars, a snooker room and the kids club.
And, just down the hill from the main house, you come upon this…
And then…
Paradise…
The resort was completely sold out when we visited (apparently it sells out year round – people book the holidays for the following year before checking out) so we did not get to see any rooms, but just take a look at these photos and you will see why this beautiful resort has been named “Best in the World” by Travel & Leisure magazine…
After spending our afternoon enjoying a leisurely beach side lunch along with a
few delicious mango mojitos, we met our boat and headed back
to Marigot Bay. It was a perfect day at the Viceroy Sugar Beach…

Anyone feeling just a tinge of jalousie??

The fact that it is so unattainable and always booked out, keeps the jealousy at bay!

Those tree house spas are amazing, inside and out. The tuk-tuks, the rooms, views, gardens, yes, paint me jalousie.
