For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you may have figured out that I am not a big winter weather person. I used to ski, but as I have gotten older, my fear of broken bones has trumped my desire to hit the slopes (okay, my dislike for being cold and fear in general never really allowed me to embrace a sport where you fly down a mountain on two little pieces of wood/fiberglass). However, this time of year, I love the “idea” of a ski vacation – sitting by a big fire, drinking hot chocolate (or toddies), wearing warm cozy sweaters and boots, eating comfort food…

Great pic of you and the boys!! I am with you, used to love to ski but am so over it. First I am petrified of the lifts, then lets not even address the bitter cold, the bulky clothes, the treacherous conditions and being at the mercy of some crazy out of control wanna be "Shaun White snowboarder" who flies into you…yep happened to my husband and he is still paying for that kids mistakes!!
Iam however all for sitting by the roaring fire, great book in hand, a big mug of hot chocolate….I will go away with you anytime, we could be great travel buddies!

Oh, I love that photo. I'm with you Sandy, the older I get, the more my fear of hurting myself outweighs any fun I used to have skiing. No joke, when I went to Zermatt for New Years a while back I slipped on ice the very first morning (just walking) and broke my elbow! But I loved it there and hope I can take my skier husband someday. Since I'm married to someone who is mad for snow, I can't get away from it, but I'm with you -give me a cozy lodge, some hot coco (or buttered rum) and I'm happy. However, while Mr. H takes his annual ski trip next month, I'm taking myself to Paris instead! That's my kind of winter break. XOXO

This is the only way I like to look at snow…on a two day vacation. I am with you, less appealing as the years go by. It was magical when the kids were younger and full of excitement. Even that has faded.

I have never, ever been downhill skiing. Flinging yourself down a mountain side is not a good plan for someone as clumsy as I am. But I do love the idea of curling up with a hot toddy in front of the fire, enjoying the snowy mountain from the lodge.

I love that picture of you and your kids!! so cute!! I used to love skiing when I lived in a tropical climate getting away to the cold weather during the holidays was amazing…then when I moved to a place that had cold winters I just wanted to go to the beach…I haven't skied in ages. And my husband doesn't ski…so let's see what happens. I would really love for my daughter to try it out a few years so she learns how to do it. I have only been skiing in the US….never Europe!

I share your fear of broken bones…or at least torn ligaments, which I did in the back bowls of Vail about a decade ago. I've never gone near a Double Black again!
I do, however, like the idea of apres ski!
And, I ADORE that photo of you with your children! You make a great ski bunny!

Give me apres ski anyday, shopping while the rats are skiing. I learned in Vail at about 30 below, didn't know any better, you know. I agree with Tina, it's just so much trouble for what I get out of it. Maybe if I were a great athelete it would be different. Like Lindsey Vonn for example. My adult kids love it. My 2 husbands love it, but I always loved the social life that went on arount it.

Just catching up on your posts after a couple of days away in London. What a fabulous selection of photos! I love holidays in the sun and being able to eat outdoors but there is something very special and festive about being in the snow at this time of year. A few years ago we had a wonderful holiday in Geneva between Christmas and New Year and visited Gstaad – a beautiful part of the world.
