Happy Spring!!! We survived!!
One of my favorite parts of my job is touring hotels. When I was on a family vacation in South Florida last week, I took a short trip down to Miami to visit one of the hottest new hotels around – the Faena Miami Beach (first featured in this post on the latest new hotel openings in 2016).
What a beautiful and unique property! Designer and hotelier, Alan Faena, along with interior design by Baz Lurhmann and Catherine Martin (of “Great Gatsby” and “Moulin Rouge” fame), has reimagined the iconic Saxony Hotel to create a very special new hotel. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is remarkable – there are instagram worthy photos at every turn.
Peppermint candies or pool umbrellas?
Alan Faena is a patron of the arts, known for creating an eponymous art district in Buenos Aires. He is doing the same thing in Miami – the Faena Forum for the arts will open in July. The focus on art is present all over the hotel – art books and original art works in the rooms, the stunning murals in the cathedral (aka lobby) and the hotel’s very own Damien Hirst artwork of a gilded wooly mammoth skeleton on the pathway to the beach!

There is an abundance of
the color red throughout the hotel – the owner is a big believer of the
power of love and, as such, wanted to evoke it by using the color of
love at every turn. It is juxtaposed by turquoise to reflect the color
of the ocean. Not a traditional color combination but one that works
beautifully in the context of this particular property.

There are butlers dedicated to each floor who provide a myriad of services, but the coolest is their packing service – they put tissue between each layer of clothing when they pack your bags.
The Faena has two highly regarded restaurants – one of which, Los Fuegos, is the first restaurant in the United States by chef Francis Mallman. He was featured in one of the episodes of Chef’s Table – the Netflix series. If you haven’t seen, it is a “must watch”. We had lunch at Los Fuegos and it was great – even if you aren’t staying at the Faena, I recommend trying it if you are in Miami.
My prediction is that the Faena will be THE place to be in Miami Beach – why not check it out now when they are offering some very generous 3rd night free packages to celebrate their opening (which also include Virtuoso amenities)??

What a fabulous find, Sandy, and how lucky you are to have stayed there! Our friend, Tom Clark, was responsible for creating the sound system in the theater in this property and he has nothing but praise when he spoke of Alan. We are putting this on our list of birthday venues!

You had me at the peppermint umbrellas and the white sandy beaches! My mom taught me the tissue paper technique for packing years ago. It works beautifully!

Looks like a lovely hotel! We are headed to Miami this weekend and we are staying at the 1 Hotel. I'm hoping it is as beautiful as the Faena. 🙂 Fun review!
