There is something very special about a mother/daughter trip…in a world where everyone is busy and children grow up way too fast, it is a wonderful thing to take time for a trip with your daughter (or your mother).
When my daughter, Caroline, graduated from high school, I surprised her with a trip to Paris. Yes, it was a bit of a splurge, but we used miles for our flights and, back in 2007, you could still find a nice hotel room in Paris without having to mortgage your home.
Both of us had spent time in Paris before, so there was no need for us to hit up all the major sites – we enjoyed leisurely days of shopping, eating delicious French food and re-visiting all of our favorite places. Caroline shared her new found love of art history with me at Chartres and the Louvre…I introduced her to macarons and Hermès, purchasing her very first twilly…and together we discovered the joy of Angelina’s hot chocolate and Monet’s Nymphéas at the recently reopened Musée de l’Orangerie. It was the perfect girl’s trip…and it is a lasting memory for both us!
Today, I am giving away a “hot of the presses” book which celebrates mother/daughter travel. I was fortunate enough to receive two copies of Jennifer Coburn’s enchanting memoir of her travels with her daughter…one for me…and another to give to one of you! In We’ll Always Have Paris, bestselling author Coburn shares her stories of traveling through Europe with her daughter from the ages of 8 to 16. Next month, as part of her “blog book tour”, Jennifer will be guest posting here sharing her experiences traveling with her daughter in Paris. Just leave me a comment below to enter to win…comment on facebook for an extra entry. I will choose a winner on Monday.
What’s everyone up to this weekend? I am hoping to enjoy some sunshine and The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. Have a fabulous weekend…wherever you may be wandering!
xoxo

What a wonderful trip, Sandy! I am so glad you got to do this with your daughter. What wonderful memories for both of you. I always said I would take my mother to Paris, but sadly her health at this point makes it look like that is not to be. I hope people who are thinking about an adventure like the one you had with your daughter will go for it after reading this post! Life goes so fast…
Happy weekend to you, enjoy the orchid show! XOXO

Hi Sandy! Thanks for your kind comments on Stylemindchic Life and I'm finally getting 'out and about' after all the moving pieces. What a fun trip for you and your daughter. The giveaway pairs so nicely with your memories and photos. I was in Paris with my 83 year old mom for the holidays 2013. Priceless.
Have fun at the flower show!

So timely that you should host this lovely giveaway. I just accompanied my daughter to London for her spring semester abroad, and we had a wonderful side trip to Paris and Belgium. In 2 weeks, I will go over to accompany her home. But not before we make a side trip to Ireland. Nothing beats Mother/daughter travels!

Sandy, I think one of my favourite memories is taking each of my daughers separately to Paris and then another trip with both together. I capped it off with a trip on my own, completing seeing Paris in four seasons. It was one of the bonus's of being an expat living in England. It was all via the Eurostar.
When we moved to Vietnam I started off with a mother and daughter trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia.
Could not think of a better gift than to travel with a child, one on one. Fantatic memories! xx

How wonderful….being the mom of sons, this is not in my future *(however possible with my nieces or future daughter in laws:) I LOVE the idea of the book though and would give it to my sister who has 2 daughters…great idea for a book!

This must have been a wonderful trip and Angelina's is a favourite of ours too. I'm a fan of books set in Paris but this one is new to me. Just my kind of read!

Your daughter is so cute! ANd what a wonderful trip I can just imagine. My little one and I and a friend and her seven year old will be escaping to Paris for three days in July. We are both dying of excitement and I look forward to exploring Paris in a way that will be exciting for 6 and 7 year olds….I'm hoping we can do this every so often and each time explore at age appropriate levels. Mother/daughter relationships are so special and trips are the perfect way to celebrate this special love.

To have taken our sons when they were so young, I think it would be an incredible treat to take them again when they are older!!!
