Recently the iconic magazine Southern Living (of which I was extolling the virtues here) put their stamp of approval on fifteen hotels throughout the Southern United States as part of their launch of the Southern Living Hotel Collection. Each property was chosen because they are “devoted exclusively to and offering the best in authentic Southern travel, hospitality and experience”.

The charter members are all four or five star independent hotels or inns which have been thoroughly vetted by Southern Living. They are hoping to add more to the collection over time.

In addition to the ones pictured above, the following are also charter members of this new collection:
Barnsley Gardens Resort, Adairsville, GA.; Big Cedar Lodge, Ridgedale, MO.; the Inn at Serenbe, Palmetto, GA.; John Rutledge House Inn, Charleston, SC; Pursell Farms, Sylacauga, AL.; Washington Duke Inn & Golf Club, Durham, NC; Wentworth Mansion, Charleston, SC; Whitestone Country Inn, Kingston, TN.; and The Greystone Inn, Lake Toxaway, NC.
Each of these properties looks interesting in their own way and each seems to exemplify some aspect of Southern lifestyle. There do, however, seem to be quite a few classic and very Southern hotels and inns missing from this collection (The Cloister at Sea Island and The Greenbriar in West Virginia come immediately to mind). I am curious which hotels will be added in the future.
Have you ever stayed at one of the Southern Living Hotel Collection properties? Is there one you would like to see added to the collection?

I am surprised that The Jefferson in Richmond VA did not make the list. Maybe it is just me but The Jefferson's main stair case screams "Southern glamour"!
