I am in the midst of planning the details of my upcoming trip to Paris in October with my sister-in-law. One of the things she really wants to do is to visit “Les Puces” (the flea markets) which is something I have never done when I have visited Paris.

After doing a little research, it seems that we will want to visit the Les Puces de Saint-Ouen…you might remember it from Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. It is the largest antique market in the world, with over 2500 stalls and has over 120,000 visitors each weekend.

We arrive in Paris on a Saturday, so we will plan to visit the flea market on Sunday morning. Have any of you been before? If so, I would love any tips or recommendations of favorite shops. I did find this iPhone app which I will download before we go.

What treasures would you search for in a Parisian flea market?

I would love to find a clock like the one pictured above…and maybe a few of those Chanel beauties. And, how amazing are those champagne buckets?
I may need to pack an extra bag for all my les puces purchases!

I didn't get to do that either my one time I went to Paris, but is definitely on the top of my list next time! You need to research shipping alternatives before you go!

Oh Sandy, you are going to have a blast, just LOOKING! Enjoy yourself my dear, and take in all the sights and smells, the chatter EN FRANÇAIS, and the tastes. Guaranteed satisfaction, even if you don't buy anything! LOVE, Anita

you will love!! such a sensual experience for the eyes, nose…..everything!
we always take the metra there, so easy. but, the 3 or so blocks to get there are dicey, a lot of others will be walking there too, just watch your purses.
enjoy!

I went a few years ago but we didn't get chance during our trip in June this year. Looking forward to seeing your purchases! I was just admiring that beautiful Wisteria in the third photo and of course the the clock and jewellery!

Sandy you are going to have a fabulous time! Where are you staying and how long will you be there?
I have been to Paris over many, many times I have have a few suggestions for you I will email them to you.
The flea market is very cool and a little expensive. If you are taking the metro make sure to be very careful of the pickpockets. When you get off the meto you have to walk past all of the tents and vendors. Sometimes people mistake this for part of the flea market, it is not, and do not go any further than this.
I love the champagne buckets! I am sure that you will find some lovely items!

I would be completely broke, but I wouldn't regret spending one single penny. I've collected all my life, and the things I've found when travelling mean so much to me.

Sandy…. Lucky you!! Sounds like you're going to have a great time. Can't wait to see all your pics. Midnight in Paris is the only Woody Allen movie that I liked. I could see it again!

How ideal!!! And what an amazing trip that will be!! My friend always gets the coolest furniture pieces there and judging from these photos you will not have any trouble finding some treasures. How is your son's trip going Loving London?

As stated above, if you take the Metro you must go a few blocks past many vendors of cheap crap and I guess because they know people are on the way to the flea market, the walk is a little dicey. That being said, on the way back to the metro I stopped to buy a cheap suitcase to take all the "extras" back home for only $10. The market itself was wonderful, walkways every which way and if you see something you like buy it because it is very hard to see everything and then remember where you saw that item later in the day. Have a great time.
