Happy May Day!!

To finish off an already busy week last week, my husband and I made a quick trip up to Providence on Saturday for a little pre-finals “pep rally” lunch with our son (and to pick up a load of his things so the car won’t be so full when we pick him up in a couple of weeks for the summer). It’s truly hard to believe that he is almost finished with his first year of college!

Our lunch at Red Stripe rivaled anything I have had in New York – their cocktails and brasserie style food is excellent. I highly recommend it if you are ever visiting Providence. It has become a tradition that we eat there whenever we visit our son…we know we really should try some of the other great places in Providence, but we just love this place!

I have been wanting to stop into a specialty olive oil store for a while to get the makings for some summer salad dressings (why we don’t have one here in Greenwich is beyond me…they seem to be popping up everywhere!) and, lo and behold, there was an Olive Tap store right next to the restaurant. It wasn’t easy to choose from all the selections, but I ended up with these two: Sorrento Orange Olive Oil and Orange White Balsamic Vinegar…I will let you know how they work out.

Our final stop of the day was the Rhode Island School of Design Art Museum. My son had told us it was worth a visit, but little did we know what a gem of a museum it is. Between to top quality art to the gorgeous furniture in the period rooms, this is a must see if you are anywhere near Providence.
Between Red Stripe, this lovely small museum and just wandering around the beautiful and historic College Hill, I would say Providence is worth a visit, even if you aren’t handing out pre-exam homemade brownies and encouragement to your college student!

Never been .. this looks like a wonderful weekender Sandy. My daughter is finishing up too and is likely to stay in her apartment if she starts her accounting internship. Time goes quickly!

You should try Olivette in Darien. I buy all my olive oil there. It is amazing and a lot close than Providence if you start to run low

Anonymous…Thanks for letting me know about Olivette. I didn't know it was there!
