We are headed to Providence, Rhode Island this weekend to drop off our youngest child for his first year in college. While we are there, I am hoping to experience WaterFire, a unique public art installation. On several evenings throughout the summer, including this Saturday, downtown Providence is transformed by bonfires that float on the surface of the rivers that pass through the middle of downtown. This is the description from WaterFire’s web site –
“WaterFire’s over eighty sparkling bonfires, the fragrant scent of aromatic wood smoke, the flickering firelight on the arched bridges, the silhouettes of the firetenders passing by the flames, the torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park.”
It will be fun to spend some time in a relatively new to us city which we will be getting to know quite well over the next four years. It’s a bittersweet trip – we will really miss our son but we are incredibly proud of him as he starts out in this new aspect of his life!
