Let’s wander into the past and across the pond to Britain in 1920….
Did you watch the Season 3 Premiere of Downton Abbey on Sunday? I found it interesting that they were drinking the “newly invented” cocktails. Today’s Thirsty Thursday features cocktails inspired by Downton Abbey courtesy of The Kitchn:
The Bittersweet Mr. Bates features Amaro Nonin, Sherry, Orange Bitters and Orange Peel. What do you think the fate of Bates will be??
The Mary via The Kitchn |
According to it’s creator at The Kitchn, The Mary cocktail is “simultaneously tart, complex, and refreshing”. It’s made with Lillet Blanc, Champagne, lemon juice and basil. What’s your take on Mary – love her or hate her?
The Edith via The Kitchn |
The Edith is made with ruby red grapefruit juice, sloe gin and rose’ champagne – sweet mixed with sour. Poor Edith – sometimes we feel so sorry for her…sometimes we want to hit her.
The Sybil via The Kitchn |
Sybil is “sweet without being saccharine, headstrong, and a bit stubborn” according to the creator of The Sybil cocktail made with Champagne, Saint Germain and gin.
Which character do you like best? What do you think will happen this season?
Chin, Chin!
Castles Crowns and Cottages says
Oh how I love this show. I am not a drinker, but the colors and glasses in which they shimmer are just beautiful! Anita
My Crafty Home Life says
I thought the fist one was a "perfect". That's my favorite.
Sandy says
Anita – I am not a big drinker either but I love the "look" of cocktails and love the glasses they show these in!
Linda – I told my husband about your "Perfect" and he is dying to try it – maybe I will feature that on my next Thirsty Thursday!
