Wow…It’s Christmas week!!! Game on…are you ready? Believe it or not, I am finally done with everything except wrapping a few gifts, and the cooking.
New York City is magical during the holiday season…even with our unseasonably warm temperatures (or maybe that makes it even better), the city puts on quite a dazzling show every year. One of my favorite things to do in the city is to see the stunning windows at the various department stores. For those of you who were not able to make it to the Big Apple this year to see the windows, here is a little glimpse…sit back and relax for a few minutes (you can wrap those gifts later) while we take a virtual trip to the windows of New York City….
Lord and Taylor always has very traditional and beautiful holiday windows…this year they followed the theme “A Few Of Our Favorite Things”:
The windows at Tiffany’s are always breathtaking. This year’s windows display Tiffany’s baubles set on a backdrop featuring with Adam style detailing, porcelain, and, of course, Tiffany blue:
Saks Fifth Avenue’s takes us on a fantasy trip around the world with wintery versions of some of the world’s greatest natural and man-made
wonders—an icy Colosseum, a snowy Great Wall of China, a frozen Great
Barrier Reef (including an ice princess mermaid). They also have
transformed the entire front facade of the store into a winter palace
complete with crystal spires and a light show involving more than
225,000 illuminated elements.

Bergdorf Goodman always has the most over the top holiday windows. This year they partnered with Swarovski crystal to create windows fitting the title “Brilliant”. They used over seven million crystals to make their windows sparkle, and they are indeed brilliant, as always.
Finally, you can always count on Barney’s to win in the creativity department. Last year they had live figure skaters in the windows…how do you top that? With live ice sculptors and a real ice castles created naturally over the course of the holiday season, and the cherry on top? A site specific work created by Dale Chihuly specifically for the Barney’s window, entitled “Winter Brilliance”.
Watch what goes on behind the scenes in creating the Barney’s windows:

How did you enjoy your virtual trip to celebrate Christmastime in the city? Time to get back to wrapping those packages…
Cheers!

Wow. I don't know what to say other than that the LIGHT is what I celebrate. Whether it's all the Christmas lights strewn across cottage and castle windows or the light of a cheery soul, light is what makes me swoon.
How I love NYC during Christmas. How I love the snow-blanketed countryside as well. Beautiful display dear Sandy, and that Tiffany window is always a favorite. Be well sweet Sandy! Anita

Fascinating! Iused to never miss seeing the windows and the last few years I have only had glimpses as I dart in and out of the city. Next year…things have to start earlier, and my motto will be nice and slow:) Tiffanys are magical and the ice sculpting idea is genius! You and I sound in sync, I have only a few more gifts to buy and then I am almost afraid to say it…but I am done, woo hoo!

What a lovely viewing! Spectacular, actually! Our last trip to NYC was anxiety ridden and claustrophobic. The crowds were unbelievable. You literally could not walk on Fifth Avenue, and had to just get in the pack and go with the flow. It seems that you picked the right time of the evening to actually SEE the windows and to enjoy their beauty !!! Thank you for sharing!
