Mykonos…it conjures images of wealthy jetsetters arriving on their mega-yachts to party all night long. Maybe in August, but not so much in October, and that was fine by me. Although I did hear a shopkeeper when wished a “good afternoon” at 1 pm, say “This is Mykonos, it is still the morning!” While I didn’t get a chance to sample the famous Mykonos nightlife (I probably wouldn’t have, even if I spent a month on the island), I did very much enjoy my day wandering the narrow streets of the capital town.
This is the one port where you are able to walk off the ship and directly into the main tourist area, so it is not necessary to book a shore excursion. We took a short walking tour to get our bearings, but in retrospect it would not have been necessary. After two full days of touring, it was nice to be able to wander on our own for most of the day.
Mykonos is a study in contrasts – amidst the quaint painted cobblestone alleys (the women of the house keep the stones in front of their home painted regularly), the white washed buildings and the fishing boats, you will find every high end designer clothing or jewelry store you can imagine from Chanel to Chopard.
The famous windmills of Mykonos…
For anyone who loves blue and white, Mykonos was total eye candy…I now know why the Greek flag is blue and white!
As we headed back out to sea, we were treated to this incredible sunset over the Cycladic Islands of Greece…spectacular!
On to our final stop in Greece, Katalakon and Olympia, the site of the ancient Olympics…

I've been to Athens and environs, but never to the islands. I know I've missed a lot. Just beautiful.
