Where in Manhattan can you find a castle, a 3,000 year old Egyptian artifact and flying horses? If you guessed Central Park, you would be correct! The wonderful 843 acre oasis in the heart of Manhattan is filled with delightful surprises!

Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed Central Park to equal the parks of great European cities such as the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris and Hyde Park in London…I would say they did a pretty good job!
This map will give you an excellent perspective of the park showing it’s boundaries, the museums surrounding the park, as well as the locations of the attractions in the park:

If you have visited Central Park, do you have a favorite place? Mine are the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, the Boathouse Café and the Mall.
An afternoon wandering through Central Park is a must for visitors to New York City!

Stunning, admittedly there are parts of Central Park I have not visited that need to be seen. I love the Boathouse, it is so iconic and strolling through on a perfect fall day….ahh, nothing like it. I have such fond memories of CP, my kids first playground visits were there…..a true treasure of the big apple!

I can't believe how little of the park I have seen. We should walk the park together.

Good morning beautiful Sandy! I'm a bit late today; sleeping in then following my husband who once he gets up, AWAY WE GO for our walk!
We've been to Central Park only once, and with the typical fears of getting mugged (I know, a bummer), we just ran through! I had no idea however, that Central Park had such jewels. Thank you for always highlighting the beauty of the world. Anita

Sandy,
We spent last week walking across the park from The Guggenheim to The Museum of Nat. History & Science.
Other than it being nearly 100 degrees, the city was still alive with love and many visitors.
Great images.

Such a great post on Central Park…and a great way to realize all the incredible parts that create this inner city oasis.
I am so happy that I was able to live in NYC (twice!). I have a thing for Literary Walk/Mall, Alice in Wonderland, the Bethesda Fountain and the boat basin for toy boats.
Fall is my favorite time to visit…I'm already dreaming about a walk through this iconic spot!

When we lived in Manhattan we spent part of every week end in the Park, but though it is like no other place, it has its downsides. There are a lot of weird and unstable people – it's a big city – and they often made the day unpleasant.
My favorite part are the garden COnservatory gardens which you enter on Fifth Avenue around 104th Street – amazing!
